The grapes were hand-harvested in small lots and brought to the winery for sorting, crushing, and an extended cold soak in stainless steel tanks before a temperature-controlled fermentation with the native yeast. The resulting wine was then aged for 18 months in 40% new French oak barrels before being bottled unfined.

The small valley within our estate Petite Sirah vineyard gets its name from the enormous hand-carved buffalo that overlooks the hollow. The 2,000-foot altitude, shallow soils, and abundance of rocks provide ideal growing conditions, especially coupled with the inversion layer created by Lake Sonoma. This layer brings the fog down to the surface of the lake, which increases the amount of sun exposure and decreases available moisture. The cuttings for this vineyard came from Jack Florence Jr’s vineyard.
