The grapes were hand-harvested in small lots and brought to the winery for sorting, crushing, and an extended cold soak in stainless-steel tanks before a temperature-controlled fermentation with the native yeast. The resulting wine was then aged for 18 months in Mercurey French oak barrels before being bottled unfined.

Well before the 1850’s, the local Pomo tribe called the Rockpile area “kabe-chana,” literally meaning, “place with many rocks.” The Pomo actually had a thriving village at the base of Rockpile peak over 200 years ago. Today we find numerous petroglyphs on the rock faces surrounding the vineyards that tell us what their life was like back then. The lands were ideal hunting grounds, which ensured a steady food supply, furs and goods to trade, and they farmed multiple crops in the rich, fertile soils at the base of the mountain. This Zin is a testament to their stewardship of the land.
